 WELCOME

Welcome to my website. I never imagined that I would be creating a website. I never wanted to. I am by nature reclusive, so putting myself in the public eye is uncomfortable for me. But here I go: I have published my first book, Susanna and Alice: Quaker Rebels. I did not choose to write this book: it chose me. Several years ago, I was given the correspondence of one of my grandfather’s cousins, Susanna Parry, discovered in her attic after her death by one of my cousins. Knowing my interest in family history, he passed the letters along to me for perusal. As I read through the dusty bundles of letters which spanned her lifetime, Susanna’s long untold story of youthful rebellion and forbidden love was finally revealed, and I knew I had been given the task of telling it. The letters also contained correspondence from Susanna’s favorite cousin Alice Paul -- fascinating, carefree letters written in her youth before she became an infamous suffragist, women’s rights activist, and political powerhouse. Followers of Alice Paul will be delighted by these humorous letters, because so few letters from her youth remain: Alice took great pains to destroy all traces of her personal life, wanting to be remembered only for her long and serious fight for women’s suffrage and equal rights.

I am looking forward to sharing this book about the lives of Susanna Parry and Alice Paul, which should fascinate readers interested in genealogy, Quaker history, LGBTQ history, the Progressive Era, Alice Paul, and women’s struggle for suffrage and equal rights.

Susanna and Alice: Quaker Rebels, The Story of Susanna Parry and Her Cousin Alice Paul. Epistolary tale of two Quaker cousins fighting political and cultural norms in America’s Progressive Era: notorious suffrage and equal rights icon Alice Paul and her unknown cousin Susanna, whose battle against convention remained hidden for generations until discovered in a box of dusty letters. Her secret story of forbidden love is finally told.
